A game created for the Game Boy™ and the Game Boy Color™ developed during the Cartridge Narratives elective at the Willem de Kooning Academy.
With a focus on storytelling through retro gaming formats, the project draws inspiration from permacomputing principles and ideas of sustainability.
The narrative follows a young protagonist who, instead of purchasing a new gift, chooses to repair her grandfather’s broken radio. Through this small but meaningful gesture, the game explores themes of care, resourcefulness, and emotional connection — all within the constraints of 8-bit technology.
Designed in 'GB studio' with low-energy, long-lasting hardware in mind, the game reflects on how we can build digital experiences that are not only emotionally resonant but also environmentally conscious.
