Kinetic Poster

2024

A kinetic poster created for the Narrative Spaces and Graphic Design term at the Willem de Kooning Academy .

This animated poster explores themes of isolation and rejection in the modern society, focusing on how social media and television amplify feelings of loneliness, disconnection, and insecurity. The central text — “Lost in a survival TV show (…) it’s so manufactured, my brain’s getting louder” from Ethan Bortnick’s Cut My Fingers Off — sets the mood and amplifies the sense of urgency and emotional unrest.

A looping animation blends static noise textures, a silhouetted reflection, and an Instagram-style interface to mimic the experience of endless scrolling that leads to "not good enough" out look on ones self. Subtitle-styled typography, synced to the original song and layered with white noise, deepens the atmosphere of detachment.

Created using a combination of frame-by-frame animation and digital compositing, the piece is designed for vertical display (1080 × 1920 px) and envisioned for public waiting spaces such as train stations and bus stops — environments where many people retreat into their screens. The work prompts a moment of self-reflection on our digital habits and their impact on mental well-being.
